Tool # 10

Three things I'd emphasize about being a good digital citizen:
1.  What you see on the internet is not always fact.
2.  Stranger Danger applies to the internet as well.  Students have to be careful about online interaction and giving out personal information.
3.  Think before you type.  How will your words make others feel?

I signed up for the i-Safe program and plan to use that to educate myself and my students.

I think I will teach digital citizenship through a combination of presenting information, conversation, and modeling appropriate v.s. inappropriate.

I'll use open house and parent teacher conferences as a platform for teaching parents about digital citizenship.  It is a great time to discuss my expectations for them and their child and pass on resources.

Tool # 9

1.  It is important to tie the technology to the objective because any tool should be used in the most effective way.
2.  Students are held accountable so teachers can make sure they are learning and using the tools appropriately.
3.  I liked Thinkfinity.  I found a game called Puzzle Me Words.  It has save capabilities and can be emailed to the teacher for accountability purposes.  It also has resources to use as follow up activities.
I also really like Tutpup.  You can choose from a variety of subjects and levels.  So glad I learned you can take a picture of the screen with the Ipad.  I would have my students take a picture of the results screen and save it for accountability purposes or use their Win Wall.
4.  I used the SBISD Interactive Database to find ABA Flash Cards and Sight Words by Photo Touch.  I liked these Apps because I can see the students using the technology to create their own flash cards and sight word cards.
5.  I can see Skype being used for reading buddy purposes.  I think it will be fun to see what suggestions the kids have for using the technology in stations.

Tool #8

3 things I learned:
1. SBISD has a searchable database with approved Apps for the devices
2. How to create a Web Clip
3. How to take a picture of the screen

Classroom Management:
Rules for technology use will be in place and strictly enforced starting on the first day of school.  Modeling and practice will be important.
Being in charge of the devices will be the most important classroom job.  It will have to be earned.

Tool # 7

Content Objective: Geography/ Social Studies
Children will become familiar with different parts of the globe and be able to find their current location on the map.
Implementation Date:  December
Tools:  Google Spreadsheet
Description:  First Grade would work together to list the cities and countries where each student was born.  We would use this information to create an interactive map.

Tool # 6

I love that you can so easily put existing quizzes into the Poll Wherever program!  Kids love technology.  I don't think I would have any trouble getting them to participate.

Tool #6 Poll Everywhere

Tool #6 Wallwisher

Tool #5
I was experimenting with the Tikatok site and learned that the educator program closed June 11th.  I made a book for collecting poems written by the students.  I think it would still be fun to produce that.  I'm not sure how to get it to show up in my blog though.

Tool #4
I'm excited to experiment with all the Google Apps tools.  This was so much easier than I expected!  It will be simple and much less time consuming to share what I create with my team and get feedback.

Tool 3

I have had two other copyright and fair use training sessions before this one.  This training video was for sure the most entertaining.  I am excited about the Dropbox.  It looks like it will be very easy to store files and access them for classroom use.

Tool 2 First Day Video

I'm finishing up Tool #2.  I am having a hard time sharing my thoughts publicly.  I have not used any social media until now.  The tips were helpful.  I think it will take some time for me to comfortably participate in an online community.  I am excited to look through the information at http://www.teachingsuccesseswithells.blogspot.com/.  I'm hoping it will contain helpful information about working with ELL students.

Tool 1 Experience

Setting up the Voki wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be.
